Verdant Power, LLC - East River Tidal Energy Project

Verdant Power, LLC called upon Trevcon Construction to install underwater turbines for the East River Tidal Energy Project.  This innovative technology developed by Verdant Power uses tidal flow in a similar fashion as windmills utilize wind.  The turbines, powered by the strong underwater currents of the East River, capture energy in the flow of water and convert it into electricity, forming a renewable, sustainable and economic source of power for many kinds of rivers, estuaries and other channels in the U.S. and around the world. This energy is presently being used as an emergency power backup to the Gristedes building located on Roosevelt Island.  Trevcon’s work involves installing drilled-in monopiles and installation of six turbines which are mounted on the monopiles five feet above the riverbed in the East Channel of the East River.  The total project may involve installation of up to 300 turbines.  Construction management is provided by Oceaneering International, Inc. of Chesapeake, Virginia.
